Banana OG

LINEAGE: OG Kush × Banana [Sagarmatha]
BREEDER: Orgnkid
TYPE: Hybrid

Banana OG is one of those cuts that just kept showing up in jars, hash, and extract menus year after year, doing quiet damage. A long-standing Orgnkid creation, this cut is typically thought to be OG Kush × Banana (Sagarmatha’s 1990s Banana strain), though as with most early clone work, there’s some room for interpretation. What isn’t up for debate is how it grows and how it hits: stacked, dense, resinous, and deceptively strong.

Orgnkid was one of the early figures in the OG Kush scene, known for helping get key clones into the hands of other legendary breeders and for backing up his selections with deep, thoughtful work. He was among the first to push verified OGs and Banana hybrids through the online scene in the early 2000s. If you smoked real Banana OG in the past 15 years, odds are it came from his cut or one that came directly out of his work.

Banana OG itself doesn’t smell like a banana runt—more like overripe banana peel smashed into fuel-drenched rubber. There’s a creamy sweetness in the jar, but the second you break a nug open, the OG funk dominates: loud, sharp, and heavy with that unmistakable lemon-pine-kush punch. Terps translate beautifully into the smoke—thick, mouth-coating, and lingering, with just enough sweetness to keep it from going fully astringent.

The high is slow, syrupy, and all weight. Not a daytime strain. Not a clear-headed OG. This one settles behind the eyes and melts its way down the spine. It’s sedating, potent, and long-lasting, often leaving even heavy smokers slower and quieter than they intended to be. Great for pain relief, appetite, and shutting the world out.

Where Banana OG really shines, though, is in hash and extract production. The resin profile is greasy and abundant, and it throws a large yield of sandy heads that perform well on both the press and the wash. It’s a favorite among commercial hashmakers for good reason—easy to grow, early to stink, easy to wash, and always sells. As a breeding parent, it adds structure, resin, and sedation. It plays well with other Kush lines, sweetens up sharp terps, and reliably passes on washability and yield.
